Wind Symphony To Perform At State Music Conference
The North Paulding Wind Symphony has been invited to perform at the 2019 Georgia Music Educators Association In-service Conference in Athens, Georgia during the event held January 24-26, 2019. There are typically two or three high school bands selected as premiere ensembles to showcase Georgia’s best, and it is exciting that the North Paulding Wind Symphony has been selected as one of those premier ensembles. This prestigious performance will be a first for North Paulding High School and Paulding County. Other regional invitational performances for the North Paulding Wind Symphony include Kennesaw State University, the University of Alabama, and the University of Georgia’s respective honor band events.
The Wind Symphony will be provided a performance day and time to occur during the three-day In-service Conference that is attended by most of the state’s music educators for sessions and concerts as professional development. Family and friends will be welcome to attend (concerts are free) and our performance day and time will be released as soon as we are provided that information.
The Wind Symphony at North Paulding High School is an advanced-level class comprised of approximately 60 musicians from grades 9-12 that performs standard and contemporary literature for wind band. The ensemble performs several times each year and rehearses on a daily basis. Work ethic and commitment are key elements for students to possess in order to maintain such a high level of success. The performers of this ensemble are willing to make personal sacrifices to make memorable musical moments for their audiences.
In May of 2018, an application and recordings of the group’s concerts were submitted for consideration. A panel of music educators (current and retired), listened to the recordings without knowing the school name and location (to prevent bias), and selected the best performances to invite to the In-service Conference.
Below is the invitation that we received from the Band Chair of the Georgia Music Educators Association:
